Departments and their Functions

Pre-service Teacher Education Branch [PSTE]

This branch works as the nodal branch for organizing the pre-service course for elementary school teachers along with the propagation of learner-centered education and personality development through training and action research. It handles matters concerning teaching methodology and also has the provision of psychological counseling and guidance to schools.  It also focuses on the learning of children with special needs. It also helps in enriching in-service programs for elementary teachers. It is committed to maintain science labs, resources for children of special needs, and supporting co-curricular activities in different areas such as sports, performing art, literature, etc.  

This branch works to identify locally relevant work experience areas in co-operation with the concerned nodal branches to develop low-cost teaching aids (spinning, weaving, dyeing, bamboo works, etc) and evaluation tools, It also helps the educational authorities /institutions to introduce work experience activities at their centers effectively. It provides valuable inputs for pre-service and in-service programs for teachers by organizing activities for cleanliness and maintenance of the institute by involving the community and through various workshops.

Work Experience Branch
District Resource Unit

This branch works to assist educational authorities in planning and in the coordination of training programs for AE/NFE. It serves as the nodal branch for organizing induction training programs for instructors and supervisors and holds orientation programs for the resource persons for the successful implementation of AE/NFE programs. It provides instructional inputs and works for evaluating the efficacy of all training programs for AE/NFE. The branch also undertakes action research for making AE/NFE programs more effective.

This branch identifies the training needs of elementary teachers in the district and plans for the same. It also prepares the annual calendar for all the programs to be held in the DIET and serves as the nodal branch for organizing in-service education programs for teachers, headmasters, and distance learning. It also works to evaluate and monitor the quality and efficiency of in-service programs along with the publication of periodic newsletters and journals. It also works as a resource center for the teachers who wish to continue their education further.

In-Service Programmes, Field Interaction and Innovation Coordination (IFIC) Branch
Curriculum Material Development and Evaluation [CMDE] Branch

This branch develops new items and adopts existing items to suit local circumstances for its effective use in elementary education such as related to local geography, flora and fauna, agriculture and handicraft, etc. It also develops techniques and guidelines for continuous and summative learner evaluation by conducting workshops, developing tests, rating scales guidelines for diagnostic testing programs.

This branch develops effective and low-cost teaching aids relevant to elementary education in collaboration with concerned staff of the DIET to maintain all audio-visual equipment, computer lab, and library, etc. It also coordinates with the nearby radio station for arranging educational broadcasts and conduct workshops for pre and in-service teachers for effective use of audio-visuals aids.

Education Technology [ET] Branch
Planning and Management (P&M) Branch

 This branch maintains suitable database for various planning exercises aimed at UPE/UEE/NLM goals by conducting appropriate programs for school heads. It also provides advice to educational planners and administrators to achieve the above goals. It provides technical assistance to educational authorities for school mapping and does the institutional planning for the school complex. It also serves as the nodal branch to all programs of community involvement in basic education such as participation of youth and other educational volunteers.
